So Monday I brought my Pathfounder to the dealer for my oil change. I’m at 70000 kms. Get a call from the dealer saying my rear brakes and rotors need to be replaced. She tells me 480.oo + taxes cnd

Kinja'd!!!

I tell them nope, i’m gonna do them my self.

Cost me 170 with taxes for the rotors and pads.

Then change the oil on my wife’s Elantra.

I just went to turn up the heat in my garage, cause I don’t want to freeze my ass off.

Compared to your cost, that’s a pretty good deal for a dealership to offer. I usually see about 4x the price of materials for a professional quote. But maybe you bought OE parts, which are usually pretty steep to begin with (but generally a good bet).

Wow. Did the dealer quote for the brake job include replacing brake fluid?

I’d definitely go slotted and drilled full carbon (ok, maybe not...)

You already need rotors on a 2014? Were they that warped/putted, or just doing them to give the pads a new surface?

rust is the killer

The ends of the rotors get all rusty and expand. Then it eats the pads faster.

Ad in the fact that there are no straight flat roads here. I can’t get more than 4 years out of a set of tires. I even replaced the summers in my path just this summer. So I get about 25000-30000 kms on one set of tires.

I’ve been driving here for over 20 years. my 50000kms brake jobs, and my 4 years tire purchases are the norm.

Ps 4 years normally means 2 sets of tires, winters and summers.......

Basically only find drilled and slotted on Amazon....

Didn’t by them cause 7 passenger cuv doesn’t equal race car

I gotcha. I work as a service advisor at a large dealership near Saint Louis, and was a tech prior to this, so I was curious.
